Margaret River Week 4

Mon 5th – Fri 9th December – On Monday work was really hard as it was so hot and humid; most of us were sweating by 7am. Luckily at 11, our supervisor said we could go home because it was way too hot to work. So I came back to the hostel and there were a few people hanging about so we decided to go to the beach. We went to Rivermouth which I hadn’t been to before and it was lovely. The only problem was the fire (which was now out) had damaged the greenery along the beach, and remains of the fire were evident in the landscape.
Tuesday was much cooler so it was easier to work, and on Wednesday I’d been told heavy rain was expected, up to 40ml and there were rumours that all the vineyards would be closing early as we can’t work in such heavy rain. I didn’t pack a lunch thinking I would be sent home before 9am, but unfortunately it only rained a little bit so I had to work the whole day. When you have your mind set to going home early, the day always drags that little bit more. In the evening a bunch of us sat around playing cards. On Thursday I cooked dinner with 2 guys (one of whom is vegan) and we made a Thai yellow curry with rice. As I didn’t know how to cook it, they cooked whilst I watched! There was so much that we could share it with a few others and after dinner quite a few of us sat around watching some top 100 songs of the noughties rundown. It was on in the background on the kitchen TV during dinner and the next thing we knew we were all betting on who would be number 1 and having music debates. It was actually a random but fun evening. On Friday we finished work an hour early, and then most of us got ready for a night out. Unfortunately there was a ticketed event on in the bar and we didn’t want to pay to get in so we stayed in the hostel.
Sat 10th December – Today a group of us went to the park to hang out and play rugby. The boys taught the girls how to play touch rugby and it was fun! After about half an hour though we were all tired from running around in the heat. We went back to the hostel and got ready to go out for the evening. Me and the other 4 girls in the hostel decided to have a girly night and we got dressed up and went to a couple of bars in town before ending up at Settler’s where we met some of the boys from the hostel. A couple of Italian guys that had moved out of our hostel that week to go to a different hostel were out and invited a couple of us back to their hostel to see what it was like and meet some new people. It wasn’t as nice and clean as my hostel though!
Sun 11th December – Today most people from the hostel went to the Rivermouth beach. We had a lot of fun burying one of the boys in the sand! Most people had a barbeque when we got back. I spent a lot of the evening arranging my onward travel plans for when I leave Margaret River.
