Airlie Beach

Mon 25th July – The next morning we had to be up at 6am for breakfast and then spent the day on the bus to Airlie Beach. When I arrived at the hostel I saw Melanie and Roxane in the kitchen as I was walking to find our room, so after a few moments of screeching we went back to the room. It was beautiful! The nicest hostel I’d stayed at in Australia. It was called Base Airlie Beach Resort, and it was a resort indeed… Felt like I was in a holiday apartment in Spain. The rooms were spacious and it was the first time I’d been in a hostel with a bathtub in the ensuite so that was luxury! We went to the Down Under Bar in the evening where I met up with people from my OzExperience bus, and played Jenga.
Tues 26th and Weds 27th July – these 2 days were really chilled out, we didn’t do anything except lie in until 11am, walk around the shops, and chill out at the lagoon.

On Tuesday night we went out for Mexican with our roommate Will and a few other guys from OzExperience.
Thurs 28th July – I went to check in to my boat for the next day, and the company told me that there were only 7 other people who had paid to go on the Boomerang. They said I should come back the next day to see if more people sign up because if there are fewer than 14 people, they will not continue the boat trip. I was a bit worried about being on a boat with so few people so I just had to keep my hopes up for the next day. Meanwhile, Roxane and Melanie moved out of Base today to go to another hostel a bit outside of town as that’s what came included with their Whitsunday package. So we just went for a wander to the Supermarket and had a really nice long walk back along the boardwalk. After they moved out, as their hostel was so far away I said goodbye to them as I wouldn’t see them until after the Whitsundays. Or so I thought….. When I went out for the evening they surprised me by turning up at the Down Under Bar! It was so funny because I didn’t think I’d see them for a few days and they decided to walk 2kms from their other hostel to come out with me! We all then saw our friend Jenny from Bundaberg and I also bumped into a girl called Louise who I’d not seen since we’d gone to Australia zoo together. That was another shock. Turns out she was on her way down from Cairns to Childers and Bundaberg where she was going to work for a little while. Funny our paths should cross again just as I’d already left Bundaberg! Louise introduced me to someone who knew a couple of girls who were going to be on my boat so that was cool.
